A very warm welcome to Huntington Primary Academy where we all work together, have fun and enjoy much success!

We have high expectations for all our pupils in terms of effort, behaviour and achievement ~ we believe everyone can and will succeed in our Academy. We offer a range of rewards to our pupils, for example: raffle tickets, house points, 'Golden Mentions', 'CARE Awards', 'Clutter Cup' (a reward for tidiness) and attendance certificates. We celebrate our pupils’ success in a special assembly each week which includes all pupils and all staff.

Partnership with families is central to all our work, we value and encourage the involvement of our families in all aspects of school life, believing that it makes a real difference for the children in our care.

We offer all our pupils a broad and balanced curriculum where every child can succeed. Our staff team is experienced in all aspects of teaching the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and the National Curriculum. In addition we offer specialist teaching in music, French, PE & sport to our pupils. Every pupil from Year 2 to Year 6 is taught to play a musical instrument (which is provided by the Academy). This core curriculum offer is regularly enhanced by work with professionals and experts, for example: Professor Sir John Holman is actively involved in our annual 'Science Week.' We have on-going partnerships with Total Sports, York Minster; Sainsbury’s Supermarket; Huntington Library; York City Football Club; York Castle Museum; York Youth Trust and York City Art Gallery all of which provide valuable enrichment opportunities for our pupils. Our youngest pupils have the opportunity to attend a free 'Super Saturday Sports Club', a club which introduces the children to a range of sports and promotes healthy lifestyles. Pupils in Year 5 have the opportunity to participate in a sports based weekend residential visit (which is fully funded for all pupils by the Academy) and Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to participate in a 3 day residential visit.

We are proud of our pupils achievements at home, in school and as part of our wider community.

We are active participants in a range of events locally, regionally and nationally, for example: York Music Festival, Yorkshire Drama Festival, Young Voices Regional Concerts, York Public Speaking Competition, York Dance Festival, York Schools Football, hockey, cross country, dodgeball and swimming competitions. Charity and enterprise work forms part of our core curriculum and our pupils organise activities which raise money to support a range of charities both locally and nationally, for example: Children in Need, St Leonard’s Hospice, Comic Relief, Macmillan Cancer Care, Water Aid, Marie Curie Cancer Care and York Against Cancer.

In addition to our curriculum we offer during the school day we also offer a wide range of clubs. These include a whole school choir, dance; drama; football; High 5; 'Rock 'n' Pops'; hockey; various mathematics clubs; a range of literacy based clubs; Healthy Eating; Computer Explorers; Total Energy and Kids Rock Club.

Our website gives you a flavour of the work we do but I would encourage you to visit us to see the Academy in operation and experience first hand our ethos and our calm collaborative working atmosphere. Our Office Manager would be delighted to give you on a tour of the Academy so that you can experience what makes our Academy special, unique and a great place for our pupils to learn. Please contact our admin office on 01904 947180 to make an appointment. Alternatively, please come to our Open Evening for parents of prospective pupils which is held annually in October.
